PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The story was originated from my own daily life. When I first arrived in Hangzhou, a city known for its beautiful West Lake, to begin my undergraduate studies, I immediately fell in love with cycling. It was a definitely magical and vivid experience to trace the city’s outline on my bike, circling around the Lake, weaving through crowds, and rushing downhill without even using the brakes. Therefore, they altogether came into the idea of developing my personal passion for cycling into a storyduring my creation of the opening sequence for the "West Lake International Animation Festival". According to the requirements of the next IAF, the theme is 'Japanese Animations.' Pondering on that clue, two images occured to me: one was the simple yet playful style of 'My Neighbors the Yamadas,' and the other was some cute Japanese animated character I used to watch on TV during my childhood. Employing both styles, I made myself the protagonist, showcasing my interactions with the classic cartoon characters in my everyday life, as well as the magical journey of my inner thoughts.
CHARACTER DESIGN
Based on my own appearance, the character was born—a hat-wearing and unisex-style girl—that’s how I usually look when I go for walks. I intentionally toned down the protagonist's unique characteristics to blur her personal identity. Instead, the first-person perspective I adopted to guide the audiences’ visions highlighted the amazing experience of the bike ride.
